An Englishman by birth, Josh Inglis is an extremely talented wicketkeeper batsman who was spotted after his selection at the Australian National Performance Squad. He has caught the eye of all those who have watched him play due to his sharp glovework and innovative batting skills. Slick behind the stumps and able to score in an unorthodox manner, Inglis presented his case as a limited-overs player.

Originally from Yorkshire, young Inglis represented the county for a few seasons at the age-group level before shifting base to Perth with his parents. It didn't take long for him to showcase his skills in Australia and soon found himself in the mix at Western Australia. It wasn't until the team's first choice wicketkeeper Sam Whiteman got injured that Inglis became a regular starter and he has filled in seamlessly with his keeping being hailed in a big way.

The Australian wicketkeeper batsman slot was a lottery of sorts since Brad Haddin's retirement and there were quite a few young talents who were all competing for that spot. Inglis' name was thrown around but eventually, it was Alex Carey and Matthew Wade who got the nod ahead of him. Nonetheless, performances in the domestic circuit kept Inglis in the fray and he eventually got an Australia call-up for the 2021 T20 World Cup despite not having played international cricket previously. He didn’t get a game though and eventually made his debut in a home-series against Sri Lanka in 2022 and was also called up for the following ODI series. He continued to be a part of Australia’s squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup but didn’t feature in any game again.

In 2023, Inglis was named in Australia’s 15-man squad for the Cricket World Cup as a reserve wicket-keeper. However, once he was picked over Alex Carey, Inglis made the most of his chances and was quickly seen as Australia's first-choice wicket-keeper in limited-overs cricket.

Post the high of the World Cup triumph, Inglis had another moment in the sun as he scored his maiden T20I hundred in Visakhapatnam. Although Australia lost that match, Inglis had proved his credentials to the world with that fiery knock. He scored a second T20I hundred a few months later in a game against Scotland, getting there off just 43 balls and becoming the fastest Australian cricketer to reach that landmark in the process.

In late 2024, Inglis was named as makeshift captain of Australia for an ODI against Pakistan, with usual skipper Pat Cummins opting out to prepare for the home Tests against India. He continued to captain Australia in the T20I series as well, which Australia won 3-0. Inglis recorded his maiden ODI hundred against England in the 2025 Champions Trophy where he scored a scintillating 86-ball 120* as Australia recorded the highest ODI chase in men’s ICC events.

At the 2025 IPL auction, he was picked by Punjab Kings for INR 2.6 crore. He was a key member of the Kings setup which finished as runners-up, he scored 278 runs in 11 innings, which included a match-winning 42-ball 73 against Mumbai Indians. At the 2026 IPL auction, Lucknow Super Giants bought him for INR 8.6 crore.

Written by Hariprasad Sadanandan and Anurag Hegde
